About the Journals
• What’s the difference between Called and Chosen and Companions in Christ?
Called and Chosen is the missionary’s journal. It combines guided sections with traditional journaling pages to help missionaries record the people, places, culture, prayers, lessons, experiences, and everyday moments that make their mission theirs.
Companions in Christ is written by their companions. At the end of each companionship, missionaries can invite their companion to leave behind memories, encouragement, testimony, inside jokes, and anything else they’d like them to remember.
One preserves your story. The other preserves their voices.
• Which journal should I buy?
If you’re looking for a journal a missionary can use throughout their mission to record their own experiences, choose Called and Chosen.
If you want a keepsake filled with messages from the companions who serve alongside them, choose Companions in Christ.
And if you want to preserve both sides of the experience, the Salt and Light Missionary Journal Set includes both journals at a special set price.
• Are these journals specifically for missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?
Yes. These journals were created specifically with missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in mind.
They were developed with input from missionaries—including my own son while serving in Bolivia and missionaries serving here in our area—to reflect the experiences, language, and everyday realities of missionary life.
• When should a missionary start using Called and Chosen?
Ideally, from the very beginning! There are things worth recording before a missionary ever reaches the mission field, and the journal is designed to travel with them throughout their missionary experience.
But there’s no such thing as starting too late. Whether you’re preparing to leave, six months into your mission, or realizing you’ve already forgotten the name of that amazing meal a member made you three transfers ago, start where you are.
• Is Called and Chosen a prompted journal or a regular journal?
Both. Called and Chosen includes thoughtfully designed sections to help missionaries record things they might not think to capture on their own, along with plenty of traditional journaling space for telling their story however they choose.
There are also optional writing prompts for those days when you want to write but aren’t quite sure where to begin, plus scriptures and inspired words woven throughout for encouragement, perspective, and reminders of purpose.
• How does Companions in Christ work?
Keep it with you throughout your mission and, near the end of each companionship, hand it to your companion.
Each companion gets space to leave behind whatever feels meaningful: memories, advice, testimony, encouragement, favorite moments, inside jokes, or simply a message to their future returned-missionary friend.
By the time you come home, the journal becomes a collection of voices from the people who walked your mission with you.
• What kind of paper and binding do the journals have?
Both journals are made with substantial 120 gsm (80 lb) offset paper and thread-sewn layflat binding, so they’re comfortable to write in and designed to hold up through missionary life.
Each also has a linen-covered hardcover with a debossed design, ribbon bookmark, and elastic closure.
Called and Chosen includes 260 pages and an interior pocket inside the front cover. Companions in Christ includes 200 pages.
• What pens work best in the journals?
Most everyday ballpoint, gel, and fine-tip pens should work beautifully on the 120 gsm (80 lb) paper.
As with any journal, especially if you prefer very wet inks or markers, we recommend testing your favorite pen on an inconspicuous spot first.

• Can I buy both journals together?
Yes! The Salt and Light Missionary Journal Set includes one Called and Chosen and one Companions in Christ for $49.99.
• Can I send an order directly to my missionary?
Within the US? Absolutely. Simply enter your missionary’s mailing address as the shipping address during checkout.
Be sure to double-check any mission-specific mailing instructions before placing your order. International shipping will hopefully be coming soon!
Shipping and Returns
• How quickly will my order ship?
Orders are carefully packed and shipped from South Carolina within 2–3 business days. During launches, holidays, or other high-volume periods, processing may take a little longer. Check our home page for current turnaround time.
Once your order is on its way, you’ll receive a shipping confirmation with tracking information.
• What if my journal arrives damaged?
We want your journal to arrive ready for all the places it’s going to go.
If your order arrives damaged or there’s a problem with your item, please contact us at hello@southernsaltprintshop.com as soon as possible and include your order number and photos of the damage so we can help make it right.
• What is your return policy?
We hope you love your Southern Salt order, but we understand that sometimes things don’t work out.

• Do you ship internationally?
At this time, Southern Salt Print Shop ships within the United States only. We hope to offer international shipping in the future as we grow!
